4393 Awards: Best musician - Allen Church

Allen Church

Allen Church was always told by his mother that he could sing before he could talk. No matter how true that is, he continues to carry an upbeat tune at age 62 — vocally, on the guitar, harmonica, fiddle, hammered dulcimer and more — making him the best local musician in the county, according to his listeners.

Church may be a flatlander from Norwalk, Conn., but he has lived in Lamoille County since 1980, and has taught many of todays local musicians from the time they were tots at Stowe elementary School, and then in private lessons.

In college, Church decided that music was a much safer major than drama, but he still dabbles a little in his love of theater playing Crazy Chase, a cross-dressing fiddler, in a one-man show.
