Police are investigating a trio of Easter morning convenience store break-ins in Morrisville and Stowe they think are related.
At about 1:30 Sunday morning, Morristown police responded to an alarm at the Stowe Road Irving gas station near Jersey Heights. Officers discovered the business had been broken into and the office area ransacked.
While investigating, police received a report that burglars had also hit Riverbend Market on Bridge Street.
According to police, security video at both locations shows what appear to be the same two suspects entering the businesses, which were closed for the night.
Morristown Police Chief Richard Keith said some cash was stolen at Riverbend Market, but the burglars appeared to get spooked soon after they broke into the Stowe Road Irving and left quickly without taking anything.
A silver sedan was observed in the area at the time of the burglaries, and Keith thinks the car belongs to the burglars.
At about the same time, Stowe police responded to a burglary at the Stowe Jolley car wash-convenience store on Route 100 in Stowe. Police don’t know yet what was taken there, but they think more than one person was involved in prying open a door into the store.
Police say evidence indicates the three burglaries are related.
The Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department also checked other places along Route 15 between 4 and 6 Sunday morning, looking for any suspicious happenings.
The fact that the burglars made a run through Stowe and Morristown, hitting several stations along the way, makes Keith believe they are experienced burglars.
“I think they’ve done it before, just not here,” he said.
Anyone with information related to these incidents is asked to call Morristown police at 888-4211, Stowe police at 253-7126, or the sheriff’s department at 888-3502.
