A Morristown man is dead after his car crashed and went off the road in Georgia, Vt.

Vermont State Police say they were dispatched Monday, Feb. 26 at 2:29 p.m., to Highbridge Road in Georgia to investigate a vehicle that had gone off the road and come to rest in a field a few hundred feet into a field.

Police suspect the car left the roadway after the driver, Christopher Nichols, 58, of Morrisville, missed a slight curve in the road. There was very little damage to the car, and Nichols was found dead in the driver’s seat.

It is believed the vehicle had gone off the road several hours before police had been called.

Nichols’ body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Burlington. The incident is not considered suspicious and neither speed nor alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash, but the investigation is still on-going.
