Two local high school students were recognized for their nominations to U.S. Service Academies at an annual reception hosted by U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy on Saturday, Jan. 3, in the Cedar Creek Room of the Vermont Statehouse.
Jaqueline Bartlett of Morrisville, a student at Rice Memorial High School in South Burlington, was recognized for her nomination to the U.S. Air Force Academy.
Connor Loughran of Stowe, a student at Stowe High School, was recognized for his nomination to the U.S. Naval Academy.
Both students were nominated by Leahy, Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Peter Welch. Nominees received certificates signed by the members of the Vermont congressional delegation who nominated them to the service academy. Receiving a nomination from a member of the congressional delegation is a required step to being admitted to the U.S. Service Academies.
Bartlett and Loughran are among 24 Vermonters who were nominated to U.S. Service Academies’ Class of 2019.
