Day nine of uninterrupted sunshine! Locals are dazed and confused. Their pallid complexions are stinging from unfamiliar rays of sun. No one knows what to do. Could spring be here already? Unbelievable! The reading at the stake hit 101 inches this week, not bad for a winter described by some as a snow drought.

Despite the absence of any real storms since mid-December, somehow the conditions on Mansfield and Spruce had gotten to that stage known euphemistically as “pretty decent.” The snowpack wasn’t particularly deep but still the woods were in good shape and the trails were very pleasant. In short the locals were okay and the visitors seemed happy. Now a week has passed and a big storm has finally hit the hill.
