Stop the presses, US Weekly: Brad Pitt and John Travolta were in Stowe this week.
Several sightings of the famous actors were reported on the mountain Monday and Tuesday.
A Stowe policeman spotted Pitt and Travolta waiting in the lunch line at Stowe Mountain Ski Resort. Angelina Jolie and Kelly Preston, the equally famous wives of Pitt and Travolta, respectively, were apparently at their sides in the lunch line.
Another Pitt sighting occurred on the ski trails at Trapp Family Lodge.
Stowe Police Chief Ken Kaplan said such celebrity appearances are common in Stowe, especially around the holidays.
“We’ve had the prime minister of Israel, Steven Tyler, Mick Jagger, Chelsea Clinton, the Bush daughters,” Kaplan said.
Sometimes Stowe’s celebrity visitors ask Stowe police for help “if they’re going to go someplace,” Kaplan said. “But they usually come with their own private security entourage.”
Evidently, that was the case with the Pitt and Travolta families. Kaplan said Stowe police received no requests from this week’s celebrity guests. He learned about their visit the same way most people in town did: From someone else.
“It’s Stowe — people here get used to it,” Kaplan said. “They’ll say, ‘Oh, yeah, that’s Brad Pitt,’ and then go back to eating their lunch.”
Nominations are open for the annual 4393 Awards, a reader survey sponsored by the Stowe Reporter and News & Citizen to honor the best in our area.
