Nina Bibikoba never imagined she’d have a loving family.

As a toddler in an impoverished rural Russian village, she scavenged food out of garbage cans. Later, while living in a state-run orphanage, she learned to gulp down her meals in less than a minute “before another hungry child grabbed my food.”
