An Orleans County Superior Court judge has set bail at $100,000 for a Craftsbury man facing half a dozen charges, including domestic and sexual assault.
Nicholas Hill, 28, turned himself in to officers from the Hardwick Police Department on Monday, March 19. He had been on the run from police since Saturday, March 17.
Vermont State Police said the case began with a 911 hang-up call from a Craftsbury residence at about 2 a.m. on Saturday. Police went to the residence but Hill drove away just before they arrived, the police report says, then fled on foot.
Police charged Hill with sexual assault, domestic assault, second-degree unlawful restraint and aggravated disorderly conduct. He was also charged with interfering with access to emergency services for allegedly grabbing the phone as the victim tried to call 911, and with driving after his license had been criminally suspended, since he fled in a car.
Hill eluded police both Saturday and Sunday before turning himself in on Monday.
The Orleans County Sheriff’s Department picked up Hill in Hardwick and took him to Orleans County Superior Court, where he was arraigned and held initially for lack of $100,000 bail, according to the Orleans County court clerk. The initial felony warrant for his arrest listed bail at $50,000.
