A Cambridge man arrested after police raided his home last July
will serve three to five years in prison.
Victor Twiggs, 50, pleaded guilty Nov. 16 in Lamoille Superior
Court to possession of more than 2.5 grams of cocaine, a felony,
and misdemeanor charges of possessing fewer than 100 doses of a
depressant, stimulant or narcotic, and possession of less than 2
ounces of marijuana. After he completes the jail sentence, he’ll be
on probation indefinitely.
Vermont State Police saw Twiggs carrying an envelope from the
Cambridge Post Office to his home July 15, 2010, during a police
stakeout. When officers knocked on Twiggs’ door and told him they
had a search warrant, they heard Twiggs running deeper into the
apartment, at which point an officer broke open the door with a
battering ram, according to an affidavit filed with the court.
Police found 9.2 grams of cocaine and 38.1 grams of marijuana in
the home, plus Ativan, a muscle relaxant, the affidavit said.
Twiggs told police he had been receiving shipments of cocaine
from New Jersey, the affidavit said.
