The Christmas season arrives in full force in Stowe this week, with “A Traditional Christmas in Stowe” scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
All manner of events are on tap, from a Children’s Lantern Parade to a Santa Claus visit to an Ugly Sweater and Karaoke Party.
Here’s a rundown on the events, which are scheduled Friday, Dec. 2, between 4 and 11 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 3, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. The schedule and a map are available at the Stowe Vibrancy welcome kiosk, Visitors’ Center, 51 S. Main St.
Friday, Dec. 2
4 p.m. Author Willem Lange reads from “Favor Johnson,” Stowe Free Library, 90 Pond St.
4:30 p.m. Children’s Lantern Parade and Tree of Lights ceremony at the Village Green, Main and Park Streets (benefit for local hospices).
5 p.m. Festival of Trees and Light, Members Art Show, refreshments, caroling; Helen Day Art Center, 90 Pond St.
5:30 p.m. Family Fun, cider, doughnuts, games, crafts; Stowe Parks and Recreation, Stowe Elementary School, 254 Park St.
6 to 11 p.m. Ugly Sweater and Karaoke Party by Stowe Cider at Sushi Yoshi, 1128 Mountain Road; free Yoshi shuttle between restaurant and Stowe village.
Saturday, Dec. 3
8 a.m. to noon. Butler House Holiday Breakfast. Menu pricing applies, 128 Main St.
9 to 10 a.m. “World Christmas” Zumba Fitness class, $10, Studio 108, 1056 Mountain Road.
9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Christmas Fair, Stowe Community Church, 137 Main St.
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Alpine Christmas Market, with a 10 a.m. performance by “The Battery” drum and bugle corps led by Peter Schmeeckle of Stowe Music Center and a 1 p.m. holiday concert by Taryn Noelle, all at Stowe Elementary School, 254 Park St.
11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Talking Hands Theatre, “Gingerbread Man” Puppet Show, Stowe Town Hall Theatre, second floor, Akeley Memorial Building, 67 Main St.
11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Candy cane twisting, hot chocolate samples. Laughing Moon Chocolates, 78 S. Main St.
Noon. Santa arrives in Stowe village, Main Street.
Noon to 3 p.m. Cookie decorating at Café on Main; free child’s photo with Santa, Stowe Mercantile, 38 Main St. (Old Depot Building). Free hayrides through village (parking lot behind store).
Reindeer and donkey visits, Village Green, Main and Park.
Welcome to Winter, Stowe Parks and Recreation, David Gale Recreation Center, 336 Park St.
Noon to 4 p.m. Hot cider and mead, Public House porch on Main Street.
3 to 6 p.m. Gingerbread house decorating, Cork Stowe, 35 School St.
4:45 to 5:45 p.m. Public ice skating, Stowe Arena.
6 to 8 p.m. Kids Movie Night (“Elf”), David Gale Recreation Center, 336 Park St.
