Stowe-based Black Cap Coffee will expand into Morrisville in about a month.
The new coffee shop will be on Morrisville’s Lower Main Street, said owner Laura Vilalta, in space owned by the Lamoille Housing Partnership.
She’s working with Andrew Volanksy of Volansky Architecture and Planning in Stowe to get the shop in good shape before she and her staff start serving lattes, sandwiches, desserts, and creative drinks like the jitterbug — a triple-shot espresso special.
Vilalta bought the Stowe shop four years ago, and it’s done well enough for her to branch out.
“Together with the rest of the village, we have invested and been rewarded by more customers,” Vilalta said in an email. “The complete renovation of the space last year and the addition of the craft beer store and the increased offer of retail have been a successful move. I want to expand our successful business model and keep investing in Vermont.”
Vilalta said she explored several locations around the state, but settled on Morrisville “because I love how the town has been evolving and I love to contribute to this process. I found an awesome location in a great town,” she said.
“Morrisville is a hub for several thousand people in Lamoille County, is the home for a hospital and several companies, and serving those who are now my neighbors, being one of them, is appealing to me.”
The Morrisville location of Black Cap, like Stowe, will feature a retail selection of craft beers from around the world.
“We all believe in our business model and that is what we are bringing to Morrisville,” Vilalta said. “This is also a good moment for me personally to invest.”
Black Cap Coffee’s expansion into that building fills it up, said Jim Lovinsky, executive director of Lamoille Housing Partnership. The top levels are rented to apartment tenants, and Pizza on Main inhabits the other commercial space.
