Drinking about Vermont history

May 15, 2015

5:30-8 p.m.

Vermont History Museum, 109 State Street, Montpelier

“Drinking About Vermont History,” an evening of sampling Vermont craft beer, will take place on Friday, May 15, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Vermont History Museum, 109 State St., Montpelier. The Vermont Historical Society will host five Vermont breweries: The Alchemist, Lost Nation Brewing, Trapp Lager Brewery, Switchback Brewing Company, and the Vermont Pub & Brewery.

Tasting stations will be set up throughout the award-winning “Freedom & Unity” exhibit, where participants can learn more about the history of alcohol consumption in Vermont, from the brews that Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys drank to the role of hard cider in 19th century political campaigns, Civil War battlefield libations and the experimentation of craft brewing in the 1970s.

Adam Krakowski, author of “Vermont Beer: History of a Brewing Revolution,” will provide a fun, informative overview of beer brewing in the Green Mountain state. The evening will end with a live auction of rare and hard-to-find bottles from Vermont breweries.

Tickets are limited: $35 ($25 for Vermont Historical Society members): 828-2180; vermonthistory.org.
