A new dance studio will open next week in Waitsfield.

Helena and David Sullivan, owners of Stowe Dance Academy, will open Mad River Dance Academy on Tuesday, Sept. 4. The studio is located above the Valley Players Theatre, Route 100.

The studio will provide a classically structured dance program. Isadora Snapp and Tracy Martin, who live in the area, will teach at the new studio.

The Sullivans bought the studio space from the International Organization of Odd Fellows last fall and spent the summer renovating and updating it.

During the past 10 years, Helena Sullivan has taught ballet at locations throughout the Mad River Valley. Sullivan, a former professional dancer, has performed with international ballet companies and taught dance for 25 years. She is the director of Trip Dance Company, a youth dance organization with members from Harwood Union High School. She is also the youth ballet mistress for Albany Berkshire Ballet’s Vermont production of “The Nutcracker Ballet,” presented every November at the Flynn Theater in Burlington. Dancers from around the state between ages 4 and 17 are encouraged to audition.
