Frozen Fantasy

The story of Laura and Albert’s wedding is a fairytale on ice: bride, groom, wedding party and some guests all on skates, gliding gracefully against the backdrop of Vermont’s highest mountain peak.

Laura was a professional skater; Albert played hockey, and learned pairs skating with his bride.

The Manhattan couple chose Stowe Mountain Resort and the Spruce Peak plaza because “it had everything that the couple, their family and their sophisticated yet diverse cultures desired,” said coordinator Nancy Jeffries-Dwyer of NJOY Event Planning.

The skating rink sealed the deal.

“This was critical for this couple — their participation in the performance, the additional performances by professional skaters, and the group skate for their guests,” Jeffries-Dwyer said. “The entire atmosphere was simply magical.”

As Albert and Laura prepared to say their vows, their 175 guests kept warm in the pavilion with hot toddies and spiced apple cider, mulled wine and cheese fondue.

The three bridesmaids were semi-professional skaters, and a pairs skating team from Ice Dance International also performed.

“This was a group who truly loved the art of dance, and they practiced for weeks before to develop incredible choreographed dances,” Jeffries-Dwyer said.

After the “I dos,” the couple’s first dance — on the ice — was a Dutch waltz.

The groom stayed classic in a black tux, while the bride had four outfits — three skating dresses, one white with a long velvet cape for the ceremony, plus a striking purple-and-black tulle cocktail dress that converted into a short, sassy dress for tango dancing.

“They all had the best time and everyone was on the dance floor for six hours,” Jeffries-Dwyer said.
