Who says print is dying? Not only did the Stowe bookstore earn the nod as the top spot to pick up some literature, but it also received the most votes of any winner in any category.
Bear Pond Books has been in existence for nearly 50 years, and owner Jennifer Hale believes her store is so popular in part because she and the staff handpick their selection of books.
“You don’t find that at the chain stores,” Hale said, adding that a focus on Vermont artists and writers — many who stop by the store to sign their works — is also a big draw. She and the staff also gets a lot of compliments on the children’s section of the store and the variety of products other than books offered, including a huge selection of greeting cards, notebooks, gift wrap, and even temporary literary tattoos. Words, words, words.
