4393 Awards: Best local farmers' market vendor - Pete Johnson, Pete's Greens

Pete Johnson, Pete's Greens

This four-season vegetable farm has grown from a small operation in Greensboro that yielded only salad greens to a multi-faceted organic operation that produces a plethora of vegetables, and more recently meats, from its Craftsbury base.

Founder and owner Pete Johnson ships his vegetables all over Vermont and New England, but the wares are also available at several locales closer to home. Pete’s Greens has been a member of the weekly Capital City Farmers Market in Montpelier since 2002. In 2007, Johnson opened a farm stand in Craftsbury and in 2014 he added another, larger shop near the Cabot Annex on Route 100 in Waterbury.

“Route 100 is a busy road, it’s a good locale and I’ve always liked the area,” Johnson said. “There’s a lot going on there, and the community has been very welcoming.”

From vibrant veggies to succulent sausages — look for the VT99 brand, a delicious collaboration between Pete’s Greens and Jasper Hill Farm —you can really get a taste of place from Pete’s products.
