Stowe Theatre Guild

A fire in April destroyed an extensive collection of costumes, sets and props stored by the Stowe Theatre Guild, but the theater company is on track to present four productions in its 2019 season.

In the face of a devastating fire that destroyed most of its costumes and sets, the Stowe Theatre Guild has rebounded and been named Best Theater/Performance Group.

The April fire did nothing to delay the opening of the 2019 season in June with a production of “Godspell.” While this award is a clear sign of community support for the Stowe Theatre Guild, patrons and lovers of the dramatic arts dug deep to show their appreciation for the group.

In two months, the guild raised more than $17,000 to replace the lost props, sets and costumes, $10,000 of which was matched by the Springer-Miller Family Foundation.

Thanks to the public’s generosity, theatergoers should enjoy the same high-quality production values they’ve come to expect during the guild’s 62-year history. The remainder of the 2019 season includes:

• “The Diary of Anne Frank” July 17 to Aug. 3.

• “Mamma Mia!” Aug. 21 to Sept. 7.

• “A Few Good Men” Sept. 25 to Oct. 12.
