If first-place 4393 Award wins come in cycles, it’s only fair Joanna Graves scooped one this year for best trainer or fitness instructor.

Graves runs Ride, the indoor cycling studio at Baggy Knees Shopping Center on Mountain Road in Stowe. The physical location is fairly new, but her business began in 2012 as JoMotion, a boot-camp-style training program Graves ran out of the back of her car.

She started it while she was still Stowe High School’s athletic director, where through sheer willpower and determination to improve kids’ athletic experiences, the job expanded from 20 hours a week to nearly full-time.

Now, Graves pushes people to sweat it out on indoor bikes, helping them leave empowered, exhilarated and inspired to vote for her for Stowe’s top fitness instructor.

“I call it a party on the bike. Just a lot of fun, a lot of energy,” Graves said in 2017 when she opened Ride.

We wouldn’t want to argue with Graves’ fans — they sound far more in-shape than this writer.
