The real estate business in Stowe sometimes approaches the level of sport, with one of the state’s largest pools of property constantly in motion, properties going on and off the market to people who live here year-round and those who own their second, third or even fourth home here. If real estate is indeed a Stowe pastime, then it makes sense that the person voted as the best real estate agent in town might as well also get the title of “Mr. Stowe.” Pete Kelly has certainly checked off the Stowe boxes since moving here in 2006 from Wayne, Penn., a suburb of Philadelphia. There’s Kelly on Mount Mansfield, where he taught snowboarding for a few years. There’s Kelly behind the bar at Trapps, the Bistro at Ten Acres and other watering holes in a town that has more liquor licenses, per capita, than Burlington. And there’s Kelly in 2010, deciding, “I wanted to create a career for myself while staying in the Stowe area and without having to go back to an expensive school.” Despite the ups and downs often associated with the real estate game, Kelly said his career has given him the steadiness he wanted and the freedom he yearned for. Because what’s more Stowe than being able to create your own schedule and bop off into the woods or onto the slopes whenever you want? Oh yeah, selling that lifestyle to other people.
