Basin Harbor, located on the shores of Lake Champlain in Vergennes, offers a true “wedding-weekend” resort experience, complete with on-water activities, a golf course and spa — and enough rooms for your entire guest list to stay on the property.

Founded in the late 1800s by the Beach family, the 700-acre lakeside resort is rich in history and tradition. Couples who tied the knot at Basin Harbor 20, 30 or even 50 years ago return year after year with their children and grandchildren.

The property offers a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces for events of all sizes, including the main lodge, three indoor reception venues, and smaller rooms for intimate gatherings.

Many couples opt for a tented ceremony and cocktail reception on one of several picturesque lawns, with views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains. A number of additional rain sites are available if needed.

Basin Harbor’s hospitality team provides all of your food and beverage needs, while the on-site coordinator oversees all of the other details. Outside vendors are limited to photographers, entertainers, an airport shuttle service and florists.

Up to 300 people can stay on the property in a wide range of accommodations, including individual cottages and hotel-style rooms in one of four buildings. Couples can reserve the entire resort (a good choice for events with more than 225 guests), or just the space they need.

“Some of Basin Harbor’s greatest amenities are the diverse on-site lodging and scenic event spaces overlooking Lake Champlain,” said special events director Anne Henderson. Few locales offer such a wide range of adventure activities, as well as opportunities for improvisation.

“Last year a couple hosted a triathlon,” she said. “This summer a bride and groom are organizing a ‘Survivor’-style event. They’re creating a fun and engaging experience for their guests, entirely unique to the couple.”
