This week we got some sun and a lot of April showers. The river behind our house got quite high but it didn’t come onto my lawn. It did go over its banks and onto some fields along Route 109 toward Jeffersonville.

The Lamoille Union dance crews will be hosting a kids’ dance clinic on Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m.-noon. There’s a $20 fee to attend, and children ages 6-13 are invited to attend. Sliding fees and sibling discounts are available. The Lancer Dancers and Lamoille Union dance groups do not want finances to prevent a person from dancing. This event is a fundraiser to help the teams purchase dance shoes and costumes for their spring recital. At the clinic, they will work on technique, skill building and learning a dance routine that they will perform for families at 11:45 p.m. Please we…

The Belvidere Community Club will have a meeting on Tuesday, May 7, at 6:30 p.m. at the town clerk’s office. If you would like to book the field, please call Cathy Mander-Adams at the town clerk’s office.

The Johnson Community Oven Committee made a public call for firewood; the reserves were beginning to dwindle, and the warm weather reminded the group that community bakes were on the season’s horizon.

What a month, and we’re not even halfway through. The eclipse and tax day are still in the future as I write, but that big dump of winter certainly took the spring out of my step. However, the sun and some seasonably warm temperatures helped the snow melt, and thoughts of spring certainly fill the news.

We got another foot of snow last week. I had to look at the calendar twice to make sure we were in April. By Sunday, the snow was almost gone. When the snow came off our porch roof it broke my flagpole. This is the second time it has broken and this time I’m going to have to buy a new one.

With warmer weather, all the snow has melted. One good thing about having snow this time of the year is that it doesn’t last long. It was good to see the sunshine for a few days. The breeze was a little chilly on Sunday, but it still looked nice outside.

Spring is on the way. Male goldfinches are more gold than green right now, and the first coltsfoot has appeared on the banks of Bryce Hill Road. In addition, this year’s paving projects have been announced. Paving on Route 15 between Jeffersonville and Johnson will start this year, with final paving happening in 2025. That will add time to drives between here and points east, including Morrisville. Right now, the Hogback Road offers a reasonable alternative, at least until a major culvert gets an upgrade.

Easter Sunday’s wind paired with intense sun was the perfect marriage of equinox-induced weather — one of our feet is entering into spring-like territory, while the other is planted firmly in the frozen mud of late winter. I’ve always liked the in between, where days are a sprinkling of seasons.

I didn’t have any respondents to the story behind the Riverside double-decker bus parked off Route 109 and the Rail Trail. I’m still interested, if anyone has information. Contact me at the number and email at the bottom of this column.

As of Town Meeting Day, Johnson’s Selectboard has been reconfigured: Eben Patch is now chair and Duncan Hastings will be vice chair. Mike Dunham has also rejoined the board after his last tenure. Aside from these positions, which are selflessly time consuming and spotlighted by constant decision making, there are other positions that continue to get filled outside of the selectboard and committee appointments, regardless of their relevance today.

We're always interested in hearing about news in our community. Let us know what's going on!
