Barbara Jean Delano Tomlinson, 90, of Morrisville died of natural causes at Copley Hospital Thursday, July 11, 2019.
She was born June 17, 1929, the first child of Howard and Lillian Campbell Delano.
She graduated from Peoples Academy in 1947 and married Hugh B. Tomlinson on Aug. 18, 1947.
Barbara was a homemaker during the early years of her marriage, then was a telephone operator for New England Telephone Co. in Morrisville.
Barbara and Hugh began Tomlinson’s Store, a well-known business on Bridge Street, and later Barbara opened Bon Bazaar Gift Shop, where she taught many handcraft classes. She also became a well-known ceramic artist and teacher.
She was a member of the Happy Hookers Club and made beautiful hooked rugs, runners and seat pads. Barbara was always doing something creative and was an accomplished knitter. She knitted socks and mittens for her grandchildren and knitted many baby bonnets for charity right up until a few years ago.
Barb was also a longtime member of the local women’s Christmas Club.
Survivors include six children, Richard (Josee), Brenda Miller (Jeffrey), James (Laura), Hugh Jr. (Jesus), Bruce (Tina) and Brent (Nicky); a sister, Elaine Boyajian and husband Stephen of Essex; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and extended family.
A brother, Wallace, died earlier.
At her request, there will be no service. Her ashes will be buried at Pleasant View Cemetery.
