Jack Black

John Timothy Black

John Timothy Black, 27, of Stowe, and recently of Telluride, Colo., died in the arms of his loved ones on Friday, June 7, 2019, at University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington after a determined battle against metastatic osteosarcoma.

Jack was born in Morrisville Nov. 20, 1991, son of John C. and Mary S. Black.

Jack was a 2010 graduate of Stowe High School and a 2013 graduate of Wyotech in Blairsville, Pa., with certifications in automotive and motorsports chassis fabrication. He loved motors of any kind, and cars, especially his 1969 Jeep Wagoneer and his Uncle Mark’s Viper.

He was a talented welder who designed and built an aluminum boat for his final project in “chassis fab.” Many fishing trips on Waterbury Reservoir happened in that boat. (Not all that many fish were caught.)

He was a lifelong skier and happily self-identified as a ski-bum, working as a “lifty” in both Stowe and Telluride, and finally last summer achieving his goal of working with lift maintenance in Telluride, combining his skills and interests.

In addition to his parents, survivors include his best friend, partner, and the love of his life, Yoha Llacza of Telluride and Peru; his sister, Anna Black of Stowe; his brother, Sam Black of Morrisville; his beloved Granny, Hesterly Black of Stowe; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; and his fur family: — Kitty Fred, Dr. Nick Dog, and the little criminal pugs, Bonnie & Clyde.

His grandparents Charles F. Black and Jack and Peg Schultz died earlier, as did his step-grandfather T. Garry Buckley.

A celebration of Jack’s life will be held Saturday, June 15, at 11 a.m. at Mount Mansfield Ski Club, where Jack spent many happy weekends while growing up, at 403 Spruce Peak Road, Stowe, concluding with a barbecue lunch.

His family could think of nothing more “Jack” than being at the mountain (his happy place), having a casual gathering, followed by his favorite: “tasty food.”

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jack’s memory to Lamoille Area Cancer Network Inc. (lacnvt.org or 198 Farr Ave., Morrisville, VT 05661, a nonprofit that was of great support to Jack through his battle; or the Mount Mansfield Ski Club Scholarship Fund: mmsc-mmwa.org/donate, or 403 Spruce Peak Road, Stowe, VT 05672).
