Join Rabbi Brian Besser and Rabbi David Fainsilber on Nov. 30 at 6 p.m. as they co-lead an inspired, heartfelt, moving Kabbalat Shabbat service, followed by a sponsored oneg in honor of Dr. Gretchen Rous Besser’s milestone birthday.

At 10 a.m. on Dec. 1, our own multi-talented Claudia Woodward will become a bat mitzvah. A sumptuous, festive vegetarian potluck will follow the music-filled service.

And then Chanukah! Chanukah gatherings, candle lightings and parties fill our event calendar. Click on jcogs.org for more details. JCOGS’ Chanukah Boutique will be open through Dec. 10.

In Vayeishev (Genesis 37:1-40:23), our Torah portion for this coming Shabbat, we discover four revealing stories: the selling of Joseph by his brothers; the indiscretion of Tamar and Judah; the attempted seduction by Potifar’s wife, which ends with her framing Joseph, which results in his imprisonment; and lastly, Joseph’s dream interpretations.

Young Joseph, Jacob’s favorite child, is brash and filled with hubris. But quite quickly, he evolves due to the circumstances he continually faced. The result? The makings of a leader with moral dimensions, due to his integrity.
