Our Black History Month celebration is Friday, Feb. 22, at 6:30 p.m. at the church, co-sponsored by the Wolcott Historical Society.
The Rev. Pat Thompson will present a program on the Rev. George S. Brown, the first Methodist African-American pastor in Vermont. The presentation will focus on his experiences in Vermont — in Addison County before going to Africa as a missionary; in the Montgomery/Richford area; and then in Wolcott from 1855 to 1857. Light refreshments will be served.
We invite you to join us for worship on Sunday mornings at 9:30, and come as you are, wherever you are on your spiritual journey.
Last Sunday, Pastor Mike Thorpe focused on the scripture from Luke 6:17-26, in which Jesus comes down from the mountain to heal those who are sick and to comfort those who are poor or hungry or weeping and mourning with words of blessing — contrary to what we have been taught about who is blessed.
Yet, if we, too, open our hearts to God, especially during those times when we feel anything but blessed, we also can find God’s blessings for ourselves or be a blessing to others.
We will reconvene our small group at Arlo Sterner’s on Tuesday evenings on Tuesday, March 12. Join us at 6 p.m. for a light meal and conversation.
If you need the services of a pastor, you may call/text Pastor Mike at 802-355-9574.
