Carol Reynolds will give a ukulele storytime concert for children on Thursday, Aug. 16, at 10 a.m. at the Greensboro Free Library, 53 E. Craftsbury Road.

The ukulele, a member of the lute family of instruments, originated in the 19th century as a Hawaiian adaptation of the Portuguese machete, a small guitar-like instrument. In Hawaii the name “Ukulele” roughly translates as "jumping flea," perhaps because of the movement of the player's fingers.
