Three doctors now with Morrisville Family Health Care could open a private practice on Professional Drive in Morrisville, but right now zoning doesn’t permit it.

Sonny Demars, who owns the building on Professional Drive where the three doctors might move, discussed the possibility with the Morristown Select Board May 20.

People urged the board to allow health care facilities in the north end of town, along Brooklyn Street up to Route 15.

Town zoning laws are already under review, and the board directed Todd Thomas, town zoning administrator and planning director, to add health care facilities to the proposed alterations. The Morristown Planning Council held a hearing on the proposed changes on Tuesday night, May 21. The select board will hold similar hearings about the changes later this summer.

Select board member Chris Towne said keeping doctors in the area is vital, and he’s heard from several residents that it’s difficult to find a doctor.

Towne said Copley Hospital board members have provided a note of support for the possible private practice.

The potential private practice will be discussed by the Morristown Development Review Board June 12.
