A serious car crash has closed Route 15 in Morristown near Mountain View Snack Bar.
The two-car, head-on crash occurred around 4:30 p.m., police say. Route 15 was closed down immediately, and has remained closed as emergency personnel responded to give aid to several people who were severely injured in the crash.
According to Morristown Police Chief Richard Keith at least one individual had to be extricated from a vehicle; he said at least one person, possibly two, was taken by helicopter to UVM Medical Center in Burlington. Details about the crash were still coming in at 6:30 p.m.; identities of the people involved were not yet available.
A crash reconstruction team was en route to the scene, and police expect the road will remain closed for several more hours. Traffic on Route 15 is being detoured up Route 12 to Elmore and onto Elmore Pond Road to Wolcott, or up Garfield Road to Hyde Park and over several back roads to Wolcott and Craftsbury.
