A Morrisville man was stopped early Wednesday morning driving the wrong way on Interstate 89.

Kenneth K. Lanpher, 48 was charged with driving under the influence.

At about 1:40 Wednesday morning, Vermont State Police received a call about a vehicle traveling north in the southbound lane. Troopers from the Middlesex station were able to stop the vehicle in the area of mile marker 61, just over 2 miles south of Exit 10 to Waterbury and Stowe.

Troopers suspected that Lanpher was under the influence of alcohol and standard field sobriety test were conducted. Lanpher was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and taken to the Middlesex station for processing.

He’s due in Washington County Superior Court on July 25. The charge could be amended or dropped.
