A Greensboro man died after his truck crashed off Route 15 in Hardwick on Monday morning, Aug. 5.

Robert Allen, 64, of Greensboro Bend died at Copley Hospital in Morrisville. Police said he suffered a medical emergency while driving and his Dodge truck went off the highway at 9:42 a.m., witnesses told Hardwick police.

The truck swerved several times before hitting a guardrail about 1,000 feet west of the Route 16 intersection. The truck had only minor cosmetic damage to the front bumper.

Allen was unconscious but still breathing when emergency crews got him out of the truck and Hardwick Rescue rushed him to Copley Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The crash investigation has been closed, police say; they believe the medical emergency led directly to the crash.

The Hardwick Police Department, Hardwick Fire Department and Hardwick Emergency Rescue Squad all responded to the crash.
