The cooperative Fairfax-Lamoille football team — with players from Lamoille Union, Peoples Academy and Stowe High joining the BFA Fairfax squad — turned in a stellar 2019 season. The Bullets went 7-1 in the regular season, then won playoff games against Mill River and then Otter Valley, which edged the team in the regular season.
In the championship game Saturday, Fairfax-Lamoille lost to Poultney 17-8.
Lamoille runners MegAnne Gilmore and Maggie McGee had good fall seasons, regularly finishing in the top five during the regular season and then finishing second and third in the D-2 state championships. Gilmore, a senior, finished second to Harwood’s Ava Thurston; McGee, a sophomore, was third.
The Lancers didn’t have a full squad of five boys at the state cross-country meet. Hugh Johnson had Lamoille’s best finish, 20th.
The 14th-ranked boys soccer team lost to No. 3 Harwood in the opening round of the D-2 playoffs. The girls team, ranked No. 11, lost to No. 6 Springfield in the opener.
Lamoille Union was also able to field a full two-person girls golf team and four-person boys team for much of the year; each squad placed in the top three at several regular season tournaments.
