Athletes ages 13-16 from Peoples Academy and Stowe High are playing American Legion baseball for the Franklin County Post 1 U-16 team known as the Vermont Jays.

The players come from Craftsbury, Morrisville, Sheldon, St. Albans, Stowe and Swanton. The team plays its home games at Peoples Academy.

Here’s a rundown of the team’s latest games.

Champlain Cougars at Vermont Jays (doubleheader)

July 20

Cancelled due to excessive heat.

Vermont Jays 15, Essex Prep 4

July 18

Down 4-2 through three innings, Vermont battled back to take an 8-4 lead by the end of the sixth and then blew the game open with seven seventh-inning runs to get the road win over Essex.

Peyton Graham went 3-for-3 with two doubles to lead the Jays offense and Joe Buonanno added three hits of his own. Chandler Follensbee, Chris Mulheron and Jas Zenik added two hits apiece and Kevin Adams and Ben Alekson had single hits for Vermont.

Alekson got the win on the mound, striking out seven and scattering three hits in five and one-third innings of work.

Vermont is now 8-13 on the year.
