August S. Wahler

August S. Wahler

August Scott Wahler, 58, died the morning of Friday, June 29, 2018, at his residence in Stowe.

He passed peacefully in his sleep, having suffered a massive heart attack 17 days before his 59th birthday on July 16.

August was born in Royal Oaks, Mich. His first 25 years were spent in California, which he has always regarded as home. After graduating from Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley, he continued his education at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

In the early 1990s, August moved to Vermont. He has two children, Levi and Gemma.

August was a fine craftsman and became a licensed building contractor in California, where he built custom homes and cabinetry. He continued his career in Colorado and Vermont.

He had an ability to carry out his artistic vision and skills through his work. Contractors collaborating with him on projects had high regard for the quality and the amount of work he was able to accomplish.

August was energetic, funny and caring. People loved being around him.

After many years in the building industry, August was in the process of making a shift toward becoming a licensed nursing assistant. Having cared for his mother this past winter before she died, he felt committed to refocus his energy to helping others in need within the health service sector.

August's greatest pleasure was spending time with his two children; they especially enjoyed memorable trips going to the movies together and skiing. With August’s love of the mountain and his skiing ability, he also mentored schoolchildren over the years during the ski season through Stowe Mountain Resort’s Friday ski program for the schools.

Survivors include his son, Levi, and daughter, Gemma, of Craftsbury; siblings Lari Parsons (Gordon) of Windsor, Calif., and Robin Wahler (Susan) and their three children, Addison, Annalise, and Alexandra, of Georgetown, S.C.; by his father and wife, David and Renee Wahler of Stowe; and by many cousins and their families on the West Coast in California, Oregon and Washington.

His mother, Beverly Wahler, died in March.

Plans for memorial services in both Northern California and Vermont will be announced at a later date.
