Roberta May Scott, 87, died peacefully Sunday morning, Feb. 3, 2019.
She was born in Reading, Pa., Nov. 7, 1931, and graduated from Reading High in the class of the ’49ers, where she was an enthusiastic and vivacious cheerleader. Her degree in physical education and health from West Chester State Teachers College (where she was a Rams cheerleader) in 1953 not only enabled her to teach in the Upper Merion School District, but to meet her husband of 65 years, Philip Carlisle Scott from Kennett Square, Pa.
Though transplants from Penn’s Woods, Phil and Bertie fell in love with Vermont after working their first teaching jobs in Brattleboro, and purchased a property off the Mountain Road in Stowe in 1953. They spent summers in Stowe with their five children: Mark, Marti, Tammy, Phil and Charlie, and grandchildren, and settled in Stowe full time after retirement.
Bertie exemplified unconditional love for everyone. Her deep, abiding faith was her source of joy. We will laugh as we remember her wonderful expressions — “Silly rabbit,” “Oh, Mercy!” and our favorite, “Jolly good!”
