Phil Bongiorno, new president

Phil Bongiorno, new president of the Stowe Rotary Club, will pursue the club’s mission: Service Above Self.

Phil Bongiorno is the new president of the Stowe Rotary Club, succeeding Caren Merson.

Rotary officers were installed June 27 in a ceremony at the Commodores Inn. Rotarians honored Merson for her guidance through a second year of transition — to a new meeting place, to new meeting schedules, and from its longstanding Oktoberfest fundraiser to an annual sponsor program.

“As I took the reins last year, I noted my pride in what we Rotarians do,” Merson said. “Our members change lives. Locally and regionally, we provide incredible support for student scholarships and other educational efforts, in addition to supporting so many local charities. And globally, we work with other clubs on international projects to fight disease, provide clean water, and support mothers and children.”

Bongiorno, the new president, said he’s “excited to lead this incredible club over the next year. The transition over the past two years has certainly been a challenge, but we came together to do it and never lost sight of the work that our community depends on each year, or our mission of Service Above Self.”

The Stowe Rotary Club is a diverse group of friends, professionals, community leaders and hard-working volunteers dedicated to making their community, and the world as a whole, a better place.
