The fifth annual Vermont Fly Fishing Show is Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Fly Rod Shop on Route 100 South in Stowe.

Admission is free. To check on or sign up for events: 253-7346. It’s a great way to learn more about fly fishing, an almost mythic sport that isn’t just about fish, but how you go about catching the fish.

Among the things going on:

• Free casting clinic from 9 to 10:30 or so at the Fly Rod Shop’s own pond; call ahead to sign up. All gear provided.

• Free on-river dry fly demonstration from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; call ahead to sign up.

• Vermont Trout Streams: A Fly Angler’s Guide to the Best — a presentation by the Fly Rod Shop crew — runs from 1 to 2 p.m.

• Free on-river nymphing and streamer fishing demonstration from 2 to 3 p.m.; call ahead to sign up.
