The Mount Mansfield Ski Club and Mount Mansfield Winter Academy Academy have merged and appointed a top executive.
Igor Vanovac, who ran the Stowe-based ski club, is the first executive director of the newly merged organization, now called Mount Mansfield Ski Club & Academy.
The two organizations recently came together, and the board this month created the position of executive director to lead the entity.
“The addition of this position reflects an important structural change to establish clear leadership accountability that will best support the future of the organization and the experience provided for their student-athletes,” said a press release from the board of directors. “A search committee reviewed a great number of applications from internal and external candidates with varied backgrounds, inclusive of ski industry, education and general business experience.”
Lori Furrer, academic director of the Mount Mansfield Winter Academy, will continue in that role and be responsible for leading the academy. A search is on to fill the athletic director position at the ski club, which Vanovac previously held.
Founded in 1920 in Stowe, the Mount Mansfield Ski Club & Academy is one of the oldest ski racing organizations in America, offering academic and athletic programs designed to prepare student-athletes for college and life, while instilling community values of integrity, excellence and a lifelong love of skiing.
