Stowe taxpayers get a little break this year.

Town Manager Charles Safford said the grand list — the list of all taxable property in Stowe — grew “better than we expected” this year, which has the effect of lowering the property tax rate, because the $9.5 million needed for the current town budget will be spread over a greater total property value.

This year, taxes are about 43 cents for every $100 in property value, or $430 for every $100,000 of value.

Stowe’s grand list totals $22.5 billion, up from $22.2 billion a year ago. That growth of 1.067 percent exceeded Safford’s prediction of 1 percent growth.
