Ten under-14 athletes from Mt. Mansfield Ski Club competed at the Eastern Regional Alpine Championships at Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington, N.Y., March 17-19.
The event showcased the best 13 and 14-year-old racers from the Eastern United States, and MMSC was part of the Vermont contingent. Athletes competed in three disciplines: a super-G speed event, giant slalom and slalom.
After three days of racing, the top 30 racers were selected to attend the Canadian American (Can-Ams) Championship at Mount-Tremblant March 28-31.
Seven of the 30 skiers are from MMSC: Benjamin Alekson, Evan Gramas, Maximilien Hoder, Kyle Robin, James Rosenbloom, Petar Stojanovic and Jake Strobeck.
They will compete against the best alpine racers in their age group across the United States and Canada.
“We are thrilled to have more athletes attending the upcoming Can-Ams than any other club,” said Igor Vanovac, MMSC executive director. “Our kids have worked hard training and racing all season to reach this level and we are so proud of their success.”
Kymie Bouchard, Tess Hanley and Christina Winchell also competed at the Eastern Regional competition at Whiteface.
The skiers are coached by Ben Blakely, Bruce Malcolm, Jon Page, Sloane Ross and Andy Valence.
