How we got here

Bike Stowe

Welcome to the 2015 riding season. Mountain biking has really taken off in the Stowe area, which now has one of the best trail networks in the Northeast.

Anybody can get into the sport; just like ski trails, mountain biking trails come with degrees of difficulty — beginner, intermediate and advanced. Beginners and children can feel comfortable on terrain designed for them; improving riders can move up to tougher trails whenever they’re ready; and experts can find plenty to challenge them in the woods.

And did we mention how beautiful it is out there?

Mountain biking started small, but has recruited more and more participants, promoters and volunteers. The Stowe Mountain Bike Club is at the center of the circle; its riders and members build trails, fix them, and nurture the sport.

People can join the club at stowemountainbike.com or through any of the local bike shops. Membership fees are as low as $35 for adults and $60 for families; the money goes into trail maintenance. In joining the bike club, people are actually joining a community; members volunteer their time to make the trail network even better. It’s a great way to meet people and make friends.

So, get on out there and ride!
