So you forgot to check that list twice and now it’s too late to count on next-day delivery for those last-minute holiday gifts? It’s happened to all of us — time and deadlines fly — and the next thing you know the floor is bare under your Christmas tree.
Lamoille County’s got your back, fortunately. The Stowe Reporter and News & Citizen compiled a handy list of gifts you can get for loved ones, right here at home, until right before Christmas morning.
Now, there’s officially no excuse. So go put some checkmarks on that list.
It used to be said, back in the early 2000s, that the day after Thanksgiving, Black Friday, was the busiest shopping day of the season, a designation that sticks to this day, despite competition from Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday and Whatever’s Left Over (a.k.a. Giving) Tuesday.
But, is it really? Doesn’t everyone need to go out to the store for an extra roll of Scotch tape — or an extra bottle of Scotch — the day before Christmas? Sure, the sum total value of all the last-minute stuff you get on Christmas Eve doesn’t approach that of the dishwasher you bought on Black Friday. But the sheer volume of Christmas-celebrating people getting last-minute gifts and supplies on Dec. 24 is evident, and it’s largely attributable to one thing: stocking stuffers.
This stocking, or sock, tacked up to something — a fireplace mantel, if you’ve got one; it’s not recommended to hang from pellet stove — and stuffed with a bunch of somethings has traditions going back hundreds of years.
Here’s a handy guide to filling up those stockings, and a handful of local gift ideas for just about everyone on your list.
