Mimi & the Podd Brothers play Friday, Aug. 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Music in the Alley, a summer series hosted by Axel’s Gallery & Frame Shop and TURNmusic. Based in NYC, Mimi & the Podd Brothers are a fresh take on early jazz with classical trimmings and soulful underpinnings. They pride themselves on reinventing the classics and retrograding the contemporary. Feisty, fun, soulful and honky-tonk all at once, the band will take you from Harlem to New Orleans, to France and the tin-pan alley. The free show is in the alley next to Axel’s at 5 Stowe St. Join your friends and neighbors on a summer evening for new music, food by Blackback Pub, and a deep sense of community. The final show of the season is Aug. 23: TURNmusic plays Sufjan Stevens/Osso Run Rabbit Run. More info at axelsgallery.com and turnmusic.org.
