Fundraiser for firefighters in Tanzania

Brian Schwartz with Cambridge Area Rotary Club President April Tuck. Schwartz told Rotarians about his efforts to help firefighters in Iringa, Tanzania.

Green Mountain Technology and Career Center and teacher Brian Schwartz at Lamoille Union High School have started a campaign to send donated fire gear to firefighters in Tanzania.

During a school trip last summer to Iringa, Tanzania, students and Schwartz discovered that Iringa, a city of more than 150,000, has only 27 active firefighters and their personal protective gear is limited. The entire department has barely four full sets of fire gear, one pair of fire boots and no fire gloves.

This lack of gear and equipment limits their ability to train, respond and save lives.

A fundraiser dinner was held recently at the Green Mountain Technology and Career Center.
