A dozen speakers, plus a student from Peoples Academy and one from Stowe High School, addressed a full house at the Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center for TEDxStowe last Thursday. TED stands for technology, entertainment and design, and the TED Foundation seeks to share “ideas worth spreading.” Local TEDx events are privately put together and funded, and feature local speakers.

Speakers Thursday night included former Vermont legislator Kiah Morris of Bennington, who spoke about inclusion for people of color and other minorities; Aaron Wisniewski, the olfactory scientist behind cocktail apothecary Alice & the Magician, who spoke about preserving memories in handcrafted fragrances; wildlife illustrator Corrina Thurston, who talked about the effects of gratitude on happiness; and state emergency medical services Chief Dan Batsie, who focused on the importance of volunteerism in first response.
