One-acts at Alchemist

“Plays & Pints,” an evening of hilarious and heartfelt one-act comedies about love, will be held on Valentine’s Day, Thursday, Feb. 14, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at The Alchemist Brewery, 100 Cottage Club Road, Stowe. The free show is presented by Read Between the Lines, a collaboration of area actors from Lamoille County Players, Stowe Theatre Guild and the Waterbury Players.

Actors include Mackenzie Brown and Dakotah Senesac of Stowe, Kim Anetsberger and Judith Mathison of Hyde Park, Chris Demars of Morrisville, and Matt Pierce of Waterbury.

“We’re excited to be back for a third year of Plays and Pints, which includes staged readings on the good and the challenging aspects of love between partners, family and friends. We’ve even added some improv to the evening,” director Judith Mathison said.

There will be a pop-up cafe of food from Sustainable Kitchen and award-winning beer from The Alchemist. All proceeds received by The Alchemist will be donated to a local nonprofit organization.

Auditions at LCP

Lamoille County Players will hold open auditions for Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice,” on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 16 and 17, at 1 p.m. sharp at the Hyde Park Opera House, 85 Main St. The play will be directed by Enid Rosenblum, and produced by Jan Bailey.

The romantic comedy is a theatrical version of Austen’s 1813 novel involving manners, courtship and relationships. Finding a husband is hardly Elizabeth Bennet’s most urgent priority but with four sisters, an overzealous matchmaking mother and a string of unsuitable suitors, it’s difficult for her to escape the subject. Ultimately, the attraction between two characters triumphs over the pride of one and the prejudice of the other.

Actors may attend on either day. Bring a calendar to note schedule conflicts. Wear clothes that you can move in. Readings from the script will be used. If cast, expect three or more rehearsals per week, although not all cast members will need to attend every rehearsal.

Show dates are Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 3 to 5 and 10 to 12.
