A look at what’s happening on the local theater circuit.
‘Pride and Prejudice’ at Lamoille Players
Jane Austen’s classic novel comes to life as the Lamoille County Players open their 67th season with a production of “Pride and Prejudice” at the historic Hyde Park Opera House, 85 Main St.
Performance dates for this romantic comedy are Friday and Saturday, May 3, 4, 10 and 11, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 5 and 12, at 2 p.m.
This theatrical version of Austen’s novel involves manners, courtship and relationships and was adapted for the stage by Jane Kendall. Finding a husband is hardly the most urgent priority for Elizabeth Bennet (Elisabeth Ortiz, from Stowe). But with four sisters (Ashley Creighton from Johnson, Federica Velutini-Hoffmann from Waitsfield, Madeline Lippmann from Newport and Kayla Grenier from Eden), an overzealous match-making mother (Wendy Lippmann from Newport), and a string of unsuitable suitors, it’s difficult to escape the subject.
In this romantic comedy, the attraction between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy (Marcus Becherer from Cabot) triumphs over the pride of one and the prejudice of the other.
Tickets are $18 for adults and $12 for students and for seniors age 60 and over. The Lamoille County Players are offering a $10 Matinee Special: any seat for the 2 p.m. matinee on May 5 is $10. Tickets are available at lcplayers.com.
The box office (888-4507) opens an hour before each performance; call at other times for additional information.
