"Dr. Ruth" at Lost Nation Theater

Maura O’Brien plays the lead role in Lost Nation Theater’s biodrama, “Becoming Dr. Ruth,” by Mark St. Germain.

“My favorite animal is the turtle... to move, it has to stick its neck out.” That’s the life philosophy of Dr. Ruth K. Westheimer in a nutshell. Dr. Ruth’s inspiring real-life story is brought to life onstage in “Becoming Dr. Ruth” at Lost Nation Theater, running Thursday through Sunday, Sept. 6 to 16, at City Hall Arts Center in downtown Montpelier. Mark St. Germain’s play bursts with the humor, honesty and life-affirming spirit of Karola Ruth Siegel, the little girl who fled the Nazis and became “Dr. Ruth,” a pioneering and taboo-shattering radio and television sex therapist with a quirky sense of humor. She also fled the Nazis in the Kindertransport, was a sniper for the Haganah in Jerusalem, struggled to succeed as a single mother newly arrived in America, and became a doctor. Curtain is 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets range from $10 to $30 at lostnationtheater.org.
