"The Cripple of Inishmaan"

The Lamoille County Players present their fall show, “The Cripple of Inishmaan,” a dark comic play, on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2-3 and 9-10, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 4 and 11, at 2 p.m. at the Hyde Park Opera House. Tickets are $18 for adults and $12 for students and seniors age 60 and over. All seats for the Nov. 4 matinee are $10. The tragicomedy play is based on Martin McDonagh’s book. It links the play’s story to the actual filming of a documentary on the same lines. The play is set in 1934 in a tiny community off the western coast of Ireland. The inhabitants are excited about the prospect of a Hollywood film crew arriving to film a documentary. Billy Claven, commonly referred to as Cripple Billy, sees it as an opportunity to escape the boredom, poverty and gossip of Inishmaan. Director John Dunn was drawn to the show because “it combines the laughter, the hope and the tears like no other play I’ve ever seen. It provides tremendous opportunities for both audience and actors alike to explore this strange and wonderful mystery we call the human experience.” The cast includes Ramona Godfrey, Judith Mathison, Doug McGown, Mike Boland, Sam Lewis, Katelyn Shaw, Thom Smith, Brendan Peveril and Dorcas Jones. The box office opens an hour before each performance. Information: 888-4507, lcplayers.com.
