Dancers from Stowe and Mad River Dance Academy, under the artistic direction of Helena Sullivan, will perform a creative ballet, “Peter Pan,” on Friday, May 31, and Saturday, June 1, at 6 p.m., and Sunday, June 2, at 1 p.m. at Dibden Center for the Arts at Northern Vermont University, 337 College Hill, Johnson. Following the ballet, “An Evening of Dance” will showcase a variety of jazz, lyrical, contemporary, tap, modern and hip-hop dance performances.

Local dancers include Hilary Wailonis as Peter Pan, Tatiana Heintz as Wendy and Savannah Rolfe as Tinker Bell. Many other Stowe, Morrisville and Harwood students perform. Avery Marchand and Julia Robinson, graduating seniors, will take their final bow.

With over 300 students, the academy has grown into a school for all to experience the joy of dance from beginners to advance students – age 3 to seniors in high school heading to college. Students are from Stowe, Morrisville, Hyde Park, Johnson, Waterbury, Waterbury Center, Fayston, Duxbury, Warren, Waitsfield, Williamstown, Albany, and Montpelier.

Pieces of the set for “Peter Pan” arrived from all over the U.S., to accentuate David Sullivan’s home-built props.

SDA’s Artistic Director Helena Sullivan has led SDA since its inception in 1990, and in 2012 she and her husband David Sullivan opened Mad River Dance Academy on Main Street in Waitsfield to make professional dance instruction available for the surrounding area. In 2015, the family business expanded as Maria Sullivan, David and Helena’s daughter joined the team as a teacher, choreographer and studio manager.
