Voters in the six towns of the Harwood Union School District approved a 3.8 percent budget increase and elected five new members of the school board, including unseating an incumbent.

By a vote of 1,062 to 852, voters approved a budget of $38,600,862 — up $1.4 million from the current budget of $37,183,151. Voters also approved the transfer of $1 million to the district’s maintenance reserve fund by a vote of 1,332 to 569.

The vote tallies include ballots from Duxbury, Fayston, Moretown, Waitsfield, Warren and Waterbury; the ballots are commingled, so results from individual towns are not available.

The six towns held elections for six seats on the 14-seat school board.

In Moretown, challenger Kristen Rodgers unseated incumbent Linda Hazard, 136 to 118.

“I will be there to support Kristen,” Hazard said. “It was an honor to serve.”

In Waterbury, James Grace defeated Troy Morton, 408-97. Grace will replace Melissa Phillips, who did not seek re-election.

In Warren, Jonathan Clough defeated Kristin Parker, 140-106. Incumbent Alycia Biondo did not seek re-election.

In uncontested races, Timothy Jones received 130 votes from Fayston residents to take the seat currently held by Jill Ellis, who did not run for another term.

In Duxbury, Torrey Smith received 180 votes to win re-election.

While results were not immediately available, Jeremy Tretiak was the only candidate on the ballot in Waitsfield to replace outgoing board member Rob Williams.
